Dr. Tao Gu is currently a Principal
Investigator at Institute for Infocomm
Research (I2R), Singapore.
He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from National University of Singapore (NUS), a
B.Eng. from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China,
and a M.S. from Nanyang
Technological University, Singapore (NTU). His research interests
involve various aspects of Ubiquitous/Pervasive computing and Ambient
Intelligent including architecture/platform/tool, distributed algorithm, data
management/processing, HCI, and security. Other areas of interest are
Wireless Sensor Networks, Service computing, and Peer-to-Peer computing.
Current funded projects:
Past projects:
- SCS
(Semantic Context Space): This project aimed to provide a
distributed infrastructure for designing reliable, scalable and
self-organized context-aware systems, and easing the development of
context-awareness applications over multiple context spaces in pervasive
computing environments. It extended the vision of SOCAM.
In SCS, we proposed a semantic P2P overlay
network for efficient context lookup and a distributed logical reasoning
mechanism for context interpretation. Our ontology-based context model was
extended with uncertainty modeling and probabilistic reasoning. The source
code of SCS was released as open source on the project web site.
- ContextBus: This project proposed a
context discovery/lookup mechanism based on multiple P2P semantic overlay
networks. The implementation has been integrated
in SOCAM.
- SOCAM (Service-Oriented
Context-Aware Middleware): This project was selected as a
pilot project under the Ultra-wide-band/sentient computing thematic
research program of A*Star in October 2004. SERC Grant no. 0421110074.
S$13,800 for 6 months. The source code of SOCAM
was released as open source at the project web
site.
- OCTOPUS:
Adaptive middleware service for multimedia communication.
